Details: 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible

This is a very nice driver quality / weekender Q-Code Mustang convertible that has really started to grow on me over the last few months. I bought it a year or so ago from a couple in Kansas through a 3rd party broker. The car had been sitting and had a steering issue and I just put it in my garage and let it sit some more. When the weather finally cooled down I started to go through the car and mend a few things to make it a nice driver.

  • I had the steering box rebuilt andndash; it was leaking badly so I just had the whole thing rebuilt.
  • Replaced the Rag Hub andndash; this was the problem with the steering when I bought the car. It was broken so the steering wheel just spun.
  • General tune up stuff.
  • Put in a new ignition switch.
  • New battery.
  • I had the passenger door power window motor rebuilt.
  • I had the instrument cluster sent out and rebuilt by a specialist andndash; the gas gauge didnandrsquo;t work nor did the dash lights.
  • I had the AC charged and checked for leaks.
  • I added a few cosmetic touches andndash; new rear emblem, new convertible top boot cover and bag, etc.

The car now runs and drives great. Everything works as it should and it gets looks every time I take it out.

Hereandrsquo;s a run-down of what I can think of to tell you about it off hand:

  • The paint is new. Itandrsquo;s a nice paint job andndash; not Pebble Beach quality, but very nicely sprayed and presentable with only minor chips like any car that are visible only under close scrutiny.
  • The Magnum 500 wheels and tires are all new.
  • The power top is brand new and works perfectly.
  • This is a Q-Code car with the 351 Cleveland and an automatic transmission. It runs great and sounds great. Itandrsquo;s a strong running car that likes to be driven. The more miles I get on the car the better it seems to run. I donandrsquo;t know what has been done to the engine for sure. My mechanic says that itandrsquo;s clearly been out so probably been rebuilt, but I canandrsquo;t swear to that. The engine compartment is well sorted and clean so it might have been out during the repaint?
  • The power steering works great now that itandrsquo;s been rebuilt.
  • The AC works well now and has no leaks. As a matter of full disclosure, my mechanic thinks that the system will need maintenance at some point (Iandrsquo;m not sure why he thinks this), but as he said thereandrsquo;s no point in fixing it until itandrsquo;s broken. Itandrsquo;s working now, but I havenandrsquo;t replaced any parts andndash; just charged it a couple months ago and leak tested.
  • I wasnandrsquo;t told anything specific about the interior, but it clearly has new seats, a new dash pad, and fairly new carpet. The console is original and is the only part of the interior that seems to show its age.
  • As I mentioned, I had the gauge cluster rebuilt. All of the gauges and lights work perfectly with the exception of the clock andndash; the light in the clock works but it doesnandrsquo;t keep time.
  • All four power windows work and they work from every switch in the car.
  • The stereo works. Itandrsquo;s original and terrible, but it works. If youandrsquo;re into tunes, youandrsquo;ll probably want to upgrade.
  • Tilt steering wheel option.
  • The trunk is presentable with the usual houndstooth liner and spare tire cover and jack bag. Nothing special but clean. I purchased a new white storage bag for the convertible cover as well.
  • The car shows 14,307 miles. I assume that it is actually 114,307 but I canandrsquo;t swear to the miles either way. The Texas title shows Exempt on the mileage - as all titles do for older cars in this state.

Trade?: Id love to say no, but I have a real weakness for cars (and other vehicles for that matter), sooooo - what do you have? In all seriousness, I

Analysis: Good Deal, 25.0% below market avg. What's this?
